---The GARBO Singers History---

The Garbo Singers originated from the Garbo Social Club, which sponsored a softball team comprised of the Garbo Social Club Members. The Social Club has dedicated itself for the last 40-years in being a strong supporter in assisting the Black Community in civic, charity, and educational development programs. The softball team was prominent during the 1980's and 90's and became renowned for their singing at anniversaries, birthdays and oldies after softball games. In June of 1990, Garbo was asked by Maude Plummer (wife of Eugene Plummer) to sing gospel music in a program at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Rockville, MD. They eagerly responded. Since then, the choir now led by Larry Plummer, has been singing praises to the Lord for over 30-years performing in over 350 programs at more than 75 venues. The Garbo Singers are comprised of members of the Garbo Social Club along with their wives, family members and friends. One of the unique aspects of the Garbo Singers is that they were originally represented by three different denominations of the Christian faith, which are Catholic, United Methodist and Baptist. The Garbo Family is proud of the Garbo Singers' many years of community service and strongly believes that its motto of "God First, Family Second, then the Community" are the major reasons that the Choir has been able to answer the call to sing gospel music and support local churches for so long.
